Research Scientist - Metabolomics

The company: Menssana Research, Inc. holds a leading position in developing highly sensitive breathalyzers to detect disease. Our Breath Research Laboratory at the Enterprise Development Center of the New Jersey Institute of Technology has developed advanced technology to detect volatile breath biomarkers of disease including breath tests for the early detection of lung cancer, breast cancer, tuberculosis and heart transplant rejection.

The position: We seek a research scientist who will work as part of our team in identifying biomarkers of disease. The person appointed to this position will work with our lab staff to run the GC-MS instruments, perform quality control checks on instruments and cleaned sorbent traps for ongoing clinical studies, and prepare supplies for shipping to collaborating sites. This position offers a unique opportunity for long-term scientific career growth as well as peer-reviewed publication in an emerging new field of diagnostic medicine.

Job Description: Use advanced MS-based technologies to generate metabolomic data on samples derived from clinically annotated patient samples. Take a leadership role in the development of advanced new technology. Analyze results from GC-MS and GCxGC-TOFMS and provide analytical and biological interpretations of data. Generate ideas for analytical improvements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field.
- Experience in the field of metabolomics.
- Research experience in applying bio-analytical chemistry to biological research.
- Applicants must either be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S.A., or hold a visa that permits them to be employed in the U.S.A.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS/PREFERENCES:
- Knowledge and operation skills of MS instruments (e.g. triplequad, iontrap or TOF) and software used to analyze/report the data obtained
- Working knowledge of statistical and analytical software
- Creative and critical thinking skills
- Communication skills,
- Interpersonal and team working skills.
